DJI has introduced its new flagship drone, the DJI Matrice 400. Designed for missions including emergency response, power line inspections, large-scale mapping, engineering, and construction, the UAV offers 59-minute flight time, a payload capacity of up to 6 kg, and a lidar and mmWave radar-based obstacle sensing system.

According to DJI, the Matrice 400 “has an IP55 protection rating, which means it can operate in harsh environments and extreme temperatures from -20°C to 50°C.” The company said that the drone can “safely take off from stationary vessels and land on moving ships” making it suitable for “offshore operations such as wind turbine inspections and maritime patrol.”

Key features of the Matrice 400 include:

  • Power-Line-Level Obstacle Avoidance: An obstacle sensing system that enables Matrice 400 to avoid buildings and mountains while flying up to 25 m/s.
  • Video Transmission: With the O4 Enterprise Enhanced Video Transmission, Matrice 400 can achieve image transmission up to 40 km thanks to the ten-antenna system on the aircraft and a high-gain phased array antenna on the remote controller. It also has a built-in video transmission relay module, allowing operators to use one Matrice 400 as a relay drone to provide relay signals for another Matrice 400.
  • Automated Operations: Matrice 400 features several new intelligent features to enable more efficient and automated operations.
  • Support for Multiple Payloads: Matrice 400 features four external E-Port V2 ports, allowing up to seven payloads to be mounted simultaneously, with a maximum load capacity of 6 kg. It also supports free switching between a single downward gimbal and dual downward gimbals, and is compatible with a third gimbal connector on the underside.
  • Privacy Controls: DJI meets the enhanced data security and privacy needs of enterprise operators through a wide range of privacy controls.
