Shortly before the close of 2025, ZenaTech announced a trio of new acquisitions to expand their Drone-as-a-Service business. The company, who ultimately acquired 19 companies in this space over the course of 2025, announced acquisitions of organizations in the geospatial and cleaning industries, including one company who marks ZenaTech’s first acquisition based in Canada. As of the announcement, the acquisitions have officially closed on Holt Surveying & Mapping, Inc., Andrew Spiewak Land Surveyor, Inc., and an unnamed commercial window washing service firm. Terms of the acquisitions were not released.

“These acquisitions are instrumental in expanding our global footprint and service offerings across key regions while building a strong foundation of service expertise and customer relationships critical to delivering our superior drone-enabled solutions,” said Shaun Passley, Ph.D., ZenaTech CEO, in a statement. “Our first Canadian acquisition and first in Illinois mark the beginning [of] new chapters of expansion. Meanwhile we expect our continued expansion in the West, in Washington state and now Idaho, will position us for growth integrating new forestry, power generation, and mining drone-based services, in addition to existing infrastructure, and construction solutions.

Holt Surveying & Mapping, Inc., was founded in 1985 and operates land surveying services across the state of Washington as well as Northern Idaho. According to the release of the acquisitions, the company maintains “established customer relationships” in the Pacific Northwest construction and infrastructure markets, and ZenaTech says they aim to use this acquisition to “expand its Drone as a Service offerings into the region’s growth sectors including inspection and survey applications in forestry, mining, and hydroelectric power generation, accelerating innovation and operational efficiency.”

Andrew Spiewak Land Surveyor, Inc., meanwhile, is based in the Chicago area and has been providing land surveying and engineering consulting services to local organizations within the AEC industry for over 30 years. ZenaTech says this particular acquisition “provides a strong foundation to expand Drone as a Service-based offerings for land surveys, inspections and other services in the Illinois state and Midwest area of the U.S.”

Finally, the unnamed window washing company is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, marking ZenaTech’s first acquisition in Canada. They have been providing window washing services to organizations in commercial low- to mid-rise buildings for 15 years. ZenaTech says this acquisition “provides a foundation to expand DaaS existing land survey and inspection services in eastern Canada as well as drone-based power washing across the DaaS network of locations.”

The drone services industry is a fascinating one right now, with different schools of thoughts about the best path toward growth and scalability. For many, the idea is to focus on one specific niche and really master it, ultimately scaling in geography with the same core competencies, whether it be for surveying, inspection, utility work, or otherwise.

Others, however, try to broaden their services to be able to meet multiple markets with the same technology, something that is exemplified here. ZenaTech is looking to scale its services both by acquiring established businesses with built-in reputations in specific geographic markets and also expanding into different verticals, as seen here with acquisitions around both surveying and window washing, two very different use cases.

There is no clear right or wrong answer in this debate, but given the aggression being shown by ZenaTech this year in the acquisition space, they clearly believe this path is the most logical for them.
