On Thursday, Trimble announced that its Trimble WorksManager software is adding new capabilities with new drone processing software. The new functionality, Trimble WorksManager Drone, will enable civil contractors to process drone data in the cloud without having to leave the Trimble ecosystem. In its release, Trimble says that the new photogrammetry functionality will make it easier for contractors to process and overlay flight data with project designs, machine data, as-builts, and other site data. Being able to calculate volumes, take measurements, and verify material for monitoring site progress are a few of the capabilities mentioned in the announcement.

Trimble first previewed WorksManager in 2019 as a cloud-based tool that connects the jobsite to the office. WorksManager Pro, released in January of this year, already let users view drone imagery alongside design and machine data. The new software capability adds the ability to process flight data inside the platform.

"Civil contractors shouldn't have to juggle fragmented tools in order to see what's happening on-site," said Elwyn McLachlan, vice president, civil construction product and strategy, Trimble. "WorksManager Drone closes the loop between photogrammetry insights and ground action giving teams a complete and accurate picture of their jobsite."

"In the past, verifying on-site material volumes required a lot of manual coordination," said Joe Zapien, field technology manager at Markham Contracting. "Trimble WorksManager Drone allows us to quickly process flight data, putting 3D visuals and cut-fill site metrics right in the hands of our foremen and project managers. Bringing that real-time visibility to the field gives us the clarity to make immediate, informed design changes and site decisions."

This new functionality is expected to be available in January 2027, and will be compatible with data from DJI and Wingtra drones. Live demonstrations of the tool will take place at the Trimble Dimensions User Conference, being held November 9-11 in Las Vegas.
