The new Osprey from Skyfish was showcased at XPONENTIAL 2025, capturing the attention of attendees with claims about being designed to replace DJI. However, thanks to new and refined capabilities, the Osprey is set to create value that could make such comparisons irrelevant.
Designed as an American-made replacement for the DJI M30 or DJI M300 series drone, the Osprey has been purpose built for infrastructure inspection and ISR. The Osprey supports third-party sensors such as the new Sony LR1 61-megapixel camera for inspection and photogrammetry and NextVision’s Raptor for ISR.
Additionally, Skyfish 3D/digital-twin models are clear, measurable, and accurate to within 1/32 of an inch. For law enforcement and defense, Osprey supports the NextVision Raptor EO/IR sensor with incredible X80 EO zoom and significant IR range. Adhe condensed form factor makes it that much easier to adopt and utilize for all of these applications and beyond.
Many have picked up on the positioning of the Osprey as an American-made alternative to foreign systems like the ones from DJI, and it’s a comparison the company is welcoming, with Dr. Orest Pilskalns, CEO of Skyfish, saying that the Osprey turned out to be an even better drone than the DJI equivalent. Given their made in the USA origin and NDAA compliance, these comparisons are significant in many respects.
Established use cases include the inspection, precise measurement, and analysis of infrastructure. This includes critical assets such as cellular towers, bridges, roadways, wind turbines, airports, and power lines, as well as applications in specialized land use management, all of which are in addition to law enforcement and defense applications.
While comparisons with alternatives will continue to fuel discussion and debate, for the Skyfish team, the true value proposition associated with the product is simple to understand.
“We’ve been designing and manufacturing drone technology for over a decade, and all of the lessons learned from that experience are in this drone,” said Jordan Beyer, VP Operations at Skyfish. “When it comes to getting your hands on a ready-to-go drone that is NDAA compliant, made-in-the-USA and supports whatever sensor you need at a reasonable price, there really is nothing else comparable.”
