MyDefence, a company committed to staying at the forefront of next-generation drone detection and jamming solutions, has announced the Wideband Antenna, an innovation designed to expose the unseen threats shaping modern warfare. With this announcement, the company behind Wingman, one of the market's smallest wearable drone detectors, has launched a new technology designed to expose the unseen threats shaping modern warfare.

The Wideband Antenna is set to be a critical asset for future defence contracts and market leadership. Paired with Wingman, the Wideband Antenna delivers a major advancement in spectrum awareness by expanding detection into critical low-frequency ranges used by today’s most evasive drones.

Beyond Drone Innovation

The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine reports that short-range drones now cause more battlefield casualties than any other weapon system. More than 70% of casualties in Ukraine are now attributed to drone attacks. These on-the-ground realities demonstrate the urgent need for tools that can detect threats hiding in the lower spectrum.

To address this issue, the Wideband Antenna, combined with Wingman, provides a vital solution for frontline soldiers and security forces globally. This pairing equips them with the capability to track, assess, and neutralize threats across the entire electromagnetic spectrum, enabling them to regain control of an increasingly challenging aerial domain where current systems fall short against dynamic and complex threats.

This breakthrough Wideband Antenna is optimized for superior detection across the 350–1300 MHz range, directly addressing gaps exploited by FPV drones and other low-band emitters. It also continues to support the 2.4 GHz band (2400–2500 MHz) and now adds complete coverage in the 5 GHz range (5000–6000 MHz), offering the sort of spectrum awareness that is essential in today's environment.

For Dan Hermansen, CEO of MyDefence, this difference has clear implications for logistics and risk. He sees it as something that directly connects to the needs of teams in the field.

“The most fatal threats are often the hardest to see and they now operate in parts of the spectrum most systems fail to detect,” said Hermansen. “Our new compact Wideband Antenna fills that gap, with a clear focus on adding the full 350–1300 MHz range where real-world attacks are now happening as well.”

Visualization Powered by ATAK

While the antenna delivers next-level detection capability, spectrum visualization is handled through ATAK (Android Tactical Assault Kit). By streaming antenna-captured spectrum activity straight into ATAK, users gain the ability to map, monitor, and react to hostile signals in real time.

Combining wearable detection, multi-frequency sensing, and advanced visual analytics on the military's tactical platform gives soldiers and security teams a clearer understanding of their surroundings. This combination makes a real difference in places like Ukraine, where more than 2,000 Wingman units are currently being utilized. The new Wideband Antenna offers these users a critical upgrade - allowing them to detect signal activity that was previously invisible, especially in the low-band range.

In addition to these sorts of defense applications, the antenna's small form factor, broad spectral range, and easy setup make it a fit to use in various other sectors and scenarios. Examples of other operational environments include conflict zones, border security, law enforcement activities, public safety initiatives, VIP protection protocols, and homeland security endeavors.

Delivering on a Global Mission

This launch signals the beginning of a significant wave of antenna innovations MyDefence has planned for 2025. Much of it has been made possible by the company's tenfold increase in production capacity at a new facility launched in 2024 to support international demand, all of which is driven by something much bigger.

“Our mission is to save lives by staying ahead of the evolving drone threat landscape," Hermansen said. "This new antenna strengthens integration between MyDefence solutions and tactical platforms.”
