RIEGL announced this week that the company is introducing a new lidar sensor for UAV-based laser scanning at INTERGEO 2026 in Munich, where the company will showcase the miniVUX-4UAV.

The miniVUX-4UAV expands RIEGL's line of miniaturized VUX-UAV lidar sensors, boasting a laser pulse repetition rate of up to 400 kHz. Within a 120-degree field of view, it can capture up to 133,333 measurements per second on the ground at scan speeds up to 150 scans per second.

RIEGL says the sensor's more tightly focused laser beam, which produces a footprint of 125 by 50 millimeters at 100 meters, improves accuracy to 12 millimeters and precision to 8 millimeters. The company points to the sensor's multi-target capability, which allows a single laser pulse to return echoes from several targets at different ranges. Combined with echo signal digitization and online waveform processing, the company also says this supports applications including forestry, archaeology and cultural heritage documentation, corridor mapping, and construction site monitoring.

The miniVUX-4UAV can be used as a stand-alone scanner or as part of a system solution with integrated cameras and an IMU/GNSS unit, such as RIEGL's RiLOC-E-25 and RiLOC-F systems.
