The commercial drone industry is growing rapidly right now, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any concerns within the sector. One of the major issues the space is dealing with today is the potential fragility around the global supply chain and how drone manufacturing is largely dominated by one company. With a potential de facto ban of new DJI products coming to the U.S., it puts pilots in a difficult position, and manufacturers are in a position of needing to build a more resilient ecosystem to ensure a bright future.
That is the topic of today’s newest episode of Uncrewed Views, a podcast brought to you by Commercial UAV News. Content manager Matt Collins is the host of today’s episode, and he was joined by Dr. Chris Raabe, global CTO of ASCL Inc. In the episode, Dr. Raabe recalls a keynote he gave in 2023 talking about the fragility around the industry today, and how the industry can and should respond. In a wide-ranging conversation centered on this topic, Dr. Raabe discusses potential paths forward for drone manufacturing in the U.S., the importance of collaboration between both private companies and allied nations, and how ACSL leverages customer feedback in order to build up their drone ecosystem.
