The commercial UAV industry is filled with some of the brightest technical minds across the business world, constantly innovating on hardware and software to bring new capabilities to some of the most critical and lucrative verticals across the world, and constantly opening up new ways to work for these professionals. When we speak with people in the industry about their gaps, however, some of the most common answers revolve around the business side of the industry. It’s one thing to be able to create a truly game-changing product or service, but it takes a completely different set of skills to then market, scale, and build that product or service into a successful business.

An upcoming webinar being hosted by Commercial UAV News is going to tackle this very topic. Although Navigating ROI, Regulation, and Recruitment: The Business of Drones in Europe will have a specific focus on how to do build a business in Europe, many of the takeaways will be applicable to anyone around the globe looking to build their drone business. The hour-long panel discussion will take place on Thursday, December 4, at 9:00 AM Eastern Time (2:00 PM GMT) and will be moderated by CUAV News’ Matt Collins. He will be joined by the following panelists:

  • Stephen Sutton, CEO, FlyBy Guys
  • David Rovira, Co-Founder and Chief Business Officer, RigiTech
  • Alejandro de San Félix Herrera Perdomo, Senior Consultant for Product Safety, Murzilli Consulting

This panel brings with it three unique perspectives from which this conversation can launch, with each panelist coming from a different corner of the drone industry, representing drone service providers, drone delivery, and regulatory consulting for aviation, covering the various buckets into which those within this industry could fall. With that diversity in mind, the panel will discuss, among other topics, some of the important factors in the early stages of building a business. What are the key early decisions that can set up an organization for success? How do they think about regulations early on to set up sustainable success? What are the biggest misunderstandings they have seen in the industry that can lead to challenges for founders?

Additionally, the panel will talk about some considerations for founders who are beyond the go-to-market stage of their company and looking to scale beyond that and set themselves up for long-term success. When do you know the time is right to expand your operations? How do you decide what positions to hire for as you grow your organization, and what do you look for in new hires for your organization? How do you become more involved in the regulatory landscape to ensure long-term success both for your organization and for the industry as a whole? How do you prepare for the upcoming proliferation of BVLOS operations and the regulations that come along with that, particularly in Europe, as you deal with cross-border complexities?

These are just a few of the topics that this hour-long panel will discuss. Registration for Thursday’s webinar is free for everyone. Additionally, all registrants will receive a free, on-demand recording of the conversation, so be sure to register even if you can’t make it for the live conversation. You won’t want to miss this conversation.
