Motorola Solutions announced this week that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire D-Fend Solutions, an Israel-based counter-drone technology company, for $1.5 billion. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
D-Fend's flagship product, EnforceAir, uses RF cyber-takeover technology to autonomously override and redirect the communications of unauthorized drones, bringing them safely to the ground as a standalone, multilayer, or integrated system. The approach differs from jamming or physical interdiction by taking control of a rogue drone in mid-flight and landing it safely, reducing the risk of collateral damage associated with other counter-drone methods.
The company says its technology has been deployed thousands of times in more than 30 countries, serving government, public safety, and enterprise customers. D-Fend has reported annual revenue growth exceeding 50 percent over the last three years and projects $185 million in revenue for full-year 2026.
The acquisition comes as the regulatory landscape for counter-UAS operations in the United States is coming into the spotlight more than ever. The Safer Skies Act, enacted as part of the FY 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, authorizes trained and certified state and local law enforcement to not only detect and track drones that pose a public safety risk, but also, where permitted, to safely mitigate those threats. That expanded authority opens a significant new domestic market for D-Fend's technology, which is already in use by the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security, Defense, and Justice.
"Rogue drones have transformed our skies into a landscape of unpredictable risk, where simple detection is no longer enough," said Greg Brown, chairman and CEO of Motorola Solutions, in a statement. "With D-Fend, drone threats are not just identified — their communications are overridden and redirected, safely bringing them to the ground, keeping people and communities safe."
Zohar Halachmi, chairman and CEO of D-Fend Solutions, said joining Motorola Solutions would allow the company to accelerate its mission of securing the skies.
The D-Fend acquisition follows Motorola's $4.4 billion purchase of Silvus last year, which brought secure communications and networking capabilities for drone operations. Together, the two acquisitions give Motorola Solutions capabilities spanning both drone deployment and drone neutralization.
