Public safety is one of the fastest growing sectors in the commercial drone space. Around the world, police departments, fire and rescue organizations, and other agencies are adopting uncrewed systems at a rapid rate as they strive to anticipate emergencies, respond to disasters, and perform critical post-incident work.
The field is growing—and changing—rapidly, and it’s important that public safety professionals who use drones learn the latest techniques, stay current with regulatory changes, and adapt and evolve their systems to keep their communities safe.
With this in mind, DRONERESPONDERS, the world's leading nonprofit program supporting the use of uncrewed aircraft systems for public safety, will once again host the DRONERESPONDERS Public Safety Summit at Commercial UAV Expo 2025.

Produced by Airborne International Response Team (AIRT), the Summit offers attendees two days of sessions that will help first responder UAS program managers and drone pilots perform safe, effective, high-impact public safety UAS operations.
To learn more about the Summit, DRONERESPONDERS and Commercial UAV News presented the webinar “Previewing the DRONERESPONDERS Public Safety Summit at Commercial UAV Expo 2025.” Featuring Jason Day, Deputy Director of Education & Training, DRONERESPONDERS, Christopher Todd, Executive Director at AIRT, and Captain Aaron Fritch, Captain, UAS Operations, Texas Department of Public Safety, the webinar looked at the Summit’s sessions and workshops and highlighted the challenges facing public safety drone operations.
“If you’re with a public safety agency that’s beginning to launch a program, it’s a great place to come to get exposed to all the different elements that impact the industry, as well as immerse yourself in the comprehensive content program that DRONERESPONDERS is going to be offering focused on the public safety sector.” Todd said.
That comprehensive program, Day reported, touches on a wide range of topics of critical importance to public safety professionals. He explained how the Summit will feature diverse panels and presentations focused on building and maintaining public safety UAS programs, counter UAS operations, and advanced air mobility for emergency response. Key sessions include “Shared Skies: How Public Safety DOTs Are Advancing UAS Integration,” “Drones in Disasters—Lessons from the Front Lines,” and “Airspace Evolution: AAM and the Future of Emergency Response.”
In addition to previewing the Summit, the webinar panelists discussed a number of important issues that are top-of-mind for many drone-focused public safety professionals. These topics included managing remote pilot attrition, how budget constraints impact UAS operations, ensuring effective communication and coordination during complex operations, and training opportunities available through the new UNITE program.
Overall, the panelists promised a robust, thought-provoking Summit at Commercial UAV Expo, one that is sure to help public safety professionals grow and improve their drone-focused operations.
“We have been very forward thinking about taking the message to the audience and being able to provide the resources and training and different tools for public safety, because that is ultimately the job and the mission of DRONERESPONDERS,” Todd said.
