Texas A&M-RELLIS and the Unmanned Safety Institute (USI) have announced a new partnership to expand access to professional drone and UAS instruction across the state, with programs set to launch in June 2026.
The collaboration is aimed at supporting the Texas workforce and economic development by preparing workers for careers in industries rapidly adopting drone technology. Package delivery, energy, agriculture, construction, public safety, and defense are among the sectors driving demand for operators with regulatory knowledge, practical experience, and recognized credentials, according to USI.
"Texas has been leading the nation in UAS testing and advanced air mobility research, positioning the state for the future of aviation," said Josh Olds, president and CEO of USI. "This partnership with Texas A&M–RELLIS advances USI's mission to develop a globally relevant, safety-first workforce for the evolving aviation ecosystem."
Texas A&M-RELLIS serves as a hub for emerging technologies and public-private collaboration, making it a natural fit for USI's focus on industry standards, operational safety, and workforce credentialing. John Barton, executive director at Texas A&M-RELLIS, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to connecting education with industry-aligned training.
"We are helping ensure our learners are prepared for the jobs of today and the emerging technologies of tomorrow," he said.
Beginning this June, USI will deliver the following programs at the Texas A&M-RELLIS campus:
- In-person FAA Part 107 exam preparation workshops
- Professional Remote Operator certification
- Professional Maintenance Technician certification
- Advanced skills development for complex operations, including BVLOS
Programs are open to students, employers, and workforce partners. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional details on program structure, schedules, enrollment, and potential funding opportunities are expected later this spring.
