Urban drone delivery provider Matternet and Dave’s Hot Chicken have announced the launch of a drone delivery pilot project. Through the collaboration, eligible residents of the Los Angeles suburb of Northridge “will be able to order Dave’s Hot Chicken through the Dave’s app and receive it directly to their homes via Matternet’s autonomous M2.”

In a press release, Matternet explained that food orders “will be prepared at Dave’s Northridge Reseda location and delivered to approved homes in Northridge.” The pilot project builds on Matternet’s current home delivery service in Silicon Valley, which began in October 2024.

Andreas Raptopoulos, Founder and CEO of Matternet, said that his company’s partnership with Dave’s Hot Chicken “shows the future of food delivery.” Raptopoulos explained that “each day, more than 10 million food deliveries move through our cities in 2-ton cars, adding traffic and pollution. Drones will replace millions of those trips — delivering meals faster, cleaner, and with no human contact beyond the restaurant and the customer.”
